Ivan had his first appointment with his medical doctor today. All is well with the boy: he weighs 13.2 lbs (age range is between 9 -13) and measures 23.5 in. length wise (age range is between 21 – 24). He was given his first set of shots, one in each thigh. When the nurse was explaining what was going to happen I thought she was telling me one in each eye and I was ready to march right out of the office with Ivan under my arm. Thigh not eye. He took it in stride but it was hard to watch him get stabbed twice.
John has him on a routine of working out at the gym every morning which Ivan is really into. On his interactive mat there are two sets of rings that hang towards each of his hands and he grabs at them, at times successfully. John was mildly concerned when he showed more accuracy with his left hand then right and when asked why he told me that they don’t make skill saws for left-handed people.
Ivan is beginning to like rattles even more so than before and when I told John than perhaps he shouldn’t give him the hard plastic ones he retorted that it was he who was the gym’s manager. Hahaha: give him the plush one, m’kay? Wouldn’t want little Ivan to hit himself in the face with a hard object, as it is he often scowls at us when he punches himself in the nose or pokes his eye with his fingers. Like we did it.
The little man is starting to find his hands to his mouth and I had to laugh last week when he first accomplished this. It was similar to observing a dog trying to catch a fly in his mouth: chomping at air. Once he masters the hand to mouth action he’ll be able to self-sooth at a greater capacity.
We are all sleeping well in the Fenton household and have done for the last month. Baby wakes once during the night for a quick feed and typically returns to sleep in a matter of moments. In the next little while we’ll transition him to his crib in the nursery, a move that I’m not exactly ready for but we might as well try it soon before he outgrows his bassinette that our friend loaned us. The door across the master bedroom will always seem so far away.

No wonder I'm no good with the skill saw.
