News Reel vol.5

Ivan is almost four months old now. That’s a high in itself and a low for his mother. I have a mere eight months of being his full time caregiver. Every day he is becoming more interactive with us. When lying on his back, he’ll reach out his hands for a spotter to pull him into a sit-up position. He rolled completely from back to front today and repeated the new trick a few more times in a row he was so impressed with himself. Next we need to work on his upper arm strength before he’ll be able to crawl.

Here’s a list of other milestones:

1. Smiles at the cat and expects a smile in return, similar to what happens when he flirts with anything else with two eyes.

2. Developed a transitional object that helps him sleep at night. So long as we have his orange glowing ‘tyke lite’, he can sleep in different rooms, in different cities.

3. Sleeps in his own room in his crib. Good thing we prepared the nursery seven months before use. No more naps on the stove top. With the help of the white noise CD that his Dad made for him and the return of the hairdryer, he can’t even hear us tip toe over the creaky floor once he’s down.

4. Favours a special toy. Ivan will actually reach for his Sophie doll when presented to him. This is a teething rubber squeaky giraffe manufactured in France, a favourite amongst babies for over thirty years. Who knew they made dog chew toys for kids.

5. Eats less. When breastfeeding he tends not to gulp down 80 – 100 ml of milk as he was with the bottle. He eats slowly and is satisfied after a big barney bletch. Ivan weighs approximately sixteen pounds, still mega large with HUGE hands.

Big thanks goes out to Papa for fixing the spacebar this week so that I could write this entry. Ivan pulled it clean off the keyboard. Guess he was bored with sitting on Daddy’s knee while he was checking his email.
